How does Sturfee’s tech work?

GPS is used in all modern location-based applications to detect the position of the user in the world. However, GPS measurements (latitude, longitude, altitude) are insufficient for Augmented Reality applications. Overlaying the real world with digital data needs more than just GPS – it needs Visual Positioning Service or VPS.

Sturfee has developed the world’s leading city-scale VPS using cutting edge advancements in satellite imaging, deep learning, geometrical computer vision, and big data to provide on-the-ground localization and environmental awareness to cameras based on what’s seen from the sky.

We use visual data from the camera feed and match it to our proprietary 3D city-scale mapping to determine (i) accurate user location, (ii) user’s orientation and gaze target, and (iii) 3D geometry of the local surroundings.

With Sturfee’s technology, any camera-connected device (smartphones and wearables for starters) can instantly receive positional and 3D understanding that can be shared with other users anytime and anywhere for fantastic and social AR experiences.


Which cities are AR-enabled?

For Sturfee to do its magic, we need to have mapped out a physical area in advance.

Each level provides increasingly more robust AR development features. Level 1 and 2 are available at launch, while Level 3 is available as part of our Early Developers Program (more info below).

How much does it cost to use the SDK?

StreetAR Cloud is free to use for up to 10,000 monthly active users based on normal usage. If you have more users than that, please contact us: contact@sturfee.com.


Does Sturfee integrate with ARKit and ARCore?

Yes! It’s as simple as adding a few plugin providers in Unity. Please sign-up and refer to our documentation for detailed instructions.


What’s the Early Adopters Program?

As with most disruptive technologies and products, there will be some bumps along the way. We’re looking to work closely with a few select developers and studios on interesting experiences that will take AR as a medium to the next level.
